ETAS successfully supports racing teams at the Formula Student Event on the Hockenheim Circuit

Over the past two years, ETAS has sponsored 11 Formula Student racing teams. For the first time this year, ETAS was a premium sponsor of Formula Student Germany, complete with banners and a booth.

With over 3,000 students and over 7,500 people on site, this year was the largest-ever turnout at the Formula Student Germany. The 2012 Formula Student Germany event was run at Hockenheim for six days in the beginning of August. ETAS was on site and supported young and talented engineers – with success! The ETAS-sponsored teams achieved great results.

ETAS provides valuable assistance to 11 Formula Student teams at a number of universities. Stuttgart, Graz, Amberg-Weiden, Esslingen, Landshut, Ulm, Karlsruhe, Berlin, and Freiberg receive support with ETAS hardware, software, and technical know-how. The resulting success speaks for itself: In the FSE competition, the ETAS-sponsored GreenTeam Stuttgart won third place, with the TU Freiberg coming in fifth. In the FSC competition, the Rennstall Esslingen team placed eighth. This year’s winners are the Formula Student Combustion (FSC) entry from Stuttgart University and the electric racer from Delft University of Technology in the Formula Student Electric (FSE) class. ETAS congratulates all teams on these outstanding results!

“Formula Student Germany is an excellent occasion to bring ETAS specialists and young, talented, and committed engineers together”, says Peter Dencker, ETAS university representative. 110 registered teams from 25 nations took part and competed in two categories. Formula Student events take place all over the world. In Hockenheim, all of the winning teams from the Silverstone Circuit and from Austria, Hungary, the United States, Italy, P.R. China, and Australia competed head to head.

“Everyone is impressed by the enthusiasm and the professionalism of the teams” says Tobias Kreuzinger, ETAS representative and Formula Student judge. The growing popularity of Formula Student underlines this impression. With the Formula Student having been established in the late Seventies in the United States, its German offspring was founded in 2006. Since 2010, there have been two different competitions: FSC and FSE. Students build a single seat formula racecar with which they can compete against teams from all over the world. The challenge is to compose a complete package consisting of a well-constructed racecar and a sales plan that best matches the given criteria. Seven ETAS representatives worked as judges. Tobias Kreuzinger liked that the conversations were informal yet productive and took place in a great atmosphere. Experts from the motorsport, automotive and supplier industries judged every team's car and sales plan based on construction, cost planning, and sales presentation. The rest of the judging was done out on track, where the students demonstrated in a number of dynamic tests how well their self-built racecars perform in their true environment.

Prior to the Formula Student Germany event, ETAS and Bosch invited their sponsored Formula Student race teams to a “Get Ready for Formula Student” event. At the Boxberg Proving Ground, the young engineers had a chance to test their vehicles under racing conditions. At the two-day event, around 200 students exchanged ideas with experts from ETAS and Bosch, which helped them prepare for the competition at Hockenheim – with great success, as the results of the Formula Student Germany prove. For the ongoing Formula Student season and the upcoming competitions in Hungary, Spain, Italy, and P.R. China, ETAS wishes the best of luck to all sponsored teams!
