ETAS showcases the next generation of vehicle diagnostics for Software Defined Vehicles

Stuttgart/Hanover, July 9, 2026 – At IAA Transportation, ETAS is presenting Next Generation Diagnostics, a solution for vehicle diagnostics in software-defined commercial vehicles. The focus is on AI-assisted troubleshooting and a service-oriented diagnostic approach based on ASAM SOVD, designed to make diagnostic processes significantly more precise, efficient, and future-ready across the entire vehicle lifecycle.

Traditional diagnostics are increasingly reaching their limits in the Software-Defined Commercial Vehicle: faults are often distributed, dynamic, and context-dependent. As a result, a conventional diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is often no longer sufficient to quickly and clearly identify the actual root cause.

This is exactly where ETAS comes in, demonstrating how vehicle data, diagnostic functions, and service information can be intelligently combined to identify faults faster, prepare repairs more effectively, and reduce downtime. This helps lower the number of repeat repairs and warranty costs, improves service quality, and creates measurable economic value.

A particular focus is on the first-time fix. In the SDV world, the ability to correctly identify and resolve a problem during the very first workshop visit is becoming a strategic success factor – for customer satisfaction, vehicle availability, and service efficiency.

To achieve this, ETAS is pursuing a Full Circle Diagnostics approach: insights from vehicle data, repair histories, and service cases are systematically fed back into development and quality management. Only when the vehicle, workshop, aftersales, quality, production, and development are intelligently connected can an efficient and sustainable first-time fix become possible.

Intelligent and high-performance onboard diagnostic software, based on standards such as ASAM SOVD, is a key enabler in this context. It provides the foundation for standardized access and scalable diagnostic processes in modern, service-oriented vehicle architectures.
