Standing up for people
How Hans-Joachim shows heart and responsibility at ETAS
For over two decades, Hans-Joachim (“Hajo”) has been an integral part of ETAS – serving as a colleague, a contributor, and an employee representative. What sets him apart? A deep understanding of the company, unwavering principles, genuine empathy, and a readiness to take responsibility. Whether as a quality manager, hardware project manager, senior manufacturing engineer, or employee representative, Hans-Joachim brings people together and provides guidance through times of change.
A journey through diverse roles
When Hans-Joachim joined ETAS on July 1, 2002, the company was smaller and almost like a startup within the Bosch Group. He was part of the team that implemented ISO 9001 and established operational quality. In the subsequent years, he worked as a hardware project manager, responsible for product lines like the ES4xx, ES63x, ES8xx, ES9xx, and CBS10x. He later transitioned into a role as a manufacturing engineer, responsible for bridging the gap between development and local or global suppliers in all topics concerning the manufacturing of ETAS hardware products. Key areas of focus included mechanical parts, ensuring quality and efficiency in printed circuit board (PCB) production, and the expansion towards Asia.“I was fortunate to experience and contribute to various areas, which significantly shaped my perspective on ETAS.”

A voice for the people
Alongside his professional responsibilities, another constant emerged: his commitment to the works council. What began as a request from colleagues became a personal mission for Hans-Joachim.“I always had a broad network and was close to the people. When asked to apply for the works council, the decision was an easy one.”For Hans-Joachim, co-determination isn't about confrontation but about responsibility. He focuses on sustainable solutions, mutual respect, and open dialog with Human Resources, management, and employees.
Shaping transformation
Over two decades, ETAS has undergone significant changes. The shift towards a software-centric company, increased visibility within the Bosch Group, and challenges in the automotive industry.“Today, different aspects are in focus compared to the past. But that doesn't mean change is impossible. You just have to stay committed.”From introducing collective agreements to establishing the central works council or relocating technical processes to Asia, Hans-Joachim has often been at the forefront, aiming for solutions that benefit all parties.
Looking ahead
After many years of full commitment, Hans-Joachim is embarking on a new chapter: a gradual transition into retirement. Through ETAS' part-time retirement model, he remains actively involved, sharing his invaluable knowledge and staying connected to the team. This flexible transition underscores ETAS' appreciation for experienced employees, reflecting mutual trust and respect for the dedication given. For Hans-Joachim, this new phase opens up more time for what truly matters. He looks forward to continued community volunteering, supporting his music club, helping neighbors, enjoying long motorcycle rides, and traveling with close friends. This model allows him to slow down, reflect, and embrace new personal pursuits. As he puts it, "And of course, I’ll keep being the football enthusiast I’ve always been, whether in the stadium or on the sofa. And if I’m lucky, I’ll soon be spending more time with my grandchildren.”
