EHANDBOOK Container-Build consolidates information from various sources relevant to ECU software documentation, such as ASCET, MATLAB®/Simulink® models, and descriptive texts. It intelligently cross-links, supplements, and indexes this data, collecting metadata on functions, measurements, and characteristic variables from multiple sources and storing them in a central database. This metadata enables you to map function connections and display detailed information about individual elements directly within the text or in the model.

To handle data from separate development steps in different formats, the EHANDBOOK Container-Build tool includes various converters. It processes image and text content in RTF format, model interface descriptions in XLS format, and ASAM formats FSX, MDX, and CCX, used for XML-based ECU documentation exchange. In particular, the Container-build tool converts function models from ETAS ASCET and MATLAB®/Simulink® as well as C code into interactive graphical models.

Additionally, it automates the generation of screenshots for textual content directly from these models. An integrated click navigation through these screenshots allows relevant passages in the text to be quickly located at a later stage in EHANDBOOK-NAVIGATOR. The tool can also automatically create graphical functional overviews showing all inputs and outputs as needed.

To safeguard copyright interests, implementation-specific information is removed from the source data during conversions. This makes EHANDBOOK Container-Build ideal for documenting software developed collaboratively by auto manufacturers and suppliers in joint projects, protecting each party’s proprietary code.

EHANDBOOK containers include no native models from software development tools but only graphical representations of models which are neither suitable for code generation nor can be processed with software development tools. As a result, no licenses for products such as ASCET or MATLAB®/Simulink® are required to use EHANDBOOK documentation.
