The ES420 module supports a wide variety of thermocouples to provide for measurements within the desired temperature ranges. With type B thermocouples, temperature values of up to 1820 °C (3308 °F) are accessible. The modules are able to adapt to the thermocouple type because it is encoded in the splitter cable used to connect up to 8 temperature sensors of one type. To provide for the capture of fast temperature changes, the sampling rate of each channel is configurable to a maximum of 50 Hz.
The plugs of the splitter cables accommodate high-precision cold-junction compensation; this feature, a low temperature coefficient, and electrical isolated channels, combine to ensure accurate temperature measurements. For quick and easy access, channel configurations can be stored onboard the ES420.
