Applications of ETAS Solutions
The demands on our automobiles’ drivability, convenience, safety, and environmental compatibility are steadily increasing. As a result, the number and complexity of electronic vehicle functions in modern automobiles and trucks is continuously rising.
Some examples: Today’s midsize cars being equipped with engine and transmission controls, electronic brakes, occupant safety, as well as driver assistant and infotainment systems, feature some 40 electronic control units (ECUs). Modern engine control modules process up to 250 MIPS (million instructions per second); these may contain upwards of 20,000 function parameters. The same magnitude applies to the volume of code onboard the ECU, the logical core of all control and diagnostic functions.
And there is even more.Today‘s automotive electronic control systems are interconnected: For example the engine management is linked to the electronic brake and adaptive cruise control. It makes use of position data provided by the navigation system. Hybrid propulsion has to manage engine, brakes, battery, and starter/generator within an integrated, overarching control approach. To do so new vehicle bus systems such as LIN, FlexRay, and Automotive Ethernet have been or are going to be introduced. They provide flexible connectivity solutions for low cost as well as high performance requirements. On top, megatrends such as automated driving will inevitably lead to even more and sophisticated functionalities with significant impact on electronic automotive systems.
These challenging requirements within the development of automotive systems make cost efficient solutions necessary to implement intelligent functionality, both within and beyond the domains of powertrain, chassis, and body, accomplished with the aid of electrics, electronics, and software. ETAS provides a wide variety of tools and software components for the following applications, addressing specific requirements of the automotive industries:
ETAS supports the introduction and exploitation of the AUTOSAR standard in software development processes. We are premium member of the AUTOSAR development partnership. With our mature AUTOSAR solutions customers benefit from the standardization and our experience in introducing AUTOSAR tools and processes.
BUSMASTER is an open source PC software for the design, monitoring, analysis, and simulation of CAN networks, based on the CANvas software tool developed by RBEI, Robert Bosch Engineering India. The BUSMASTER software project is sponsored by ETAS.
Electric and Hybrid Drive
Hybrid Electric Vehicles and pure electric vehicles play a key role for the automotive future. ETAS applications meet the challenges in this segment such as measuring high voltages, mastering software complexity or the design and testing of very fast control functions.
Functional Safety – ISO 26262
No compromises when it comes to safety-related systems. The ASCET-MD and ASCET-SE software modeling and code generation tools are ISO 26262 certified for the development of safety-related systems according to IEC 61508:2010 and ISO/DIS 26262:2009. The certification covers code generation for all currently supported microcontroller targets for systems with a safety integrity level up to and including SIL 3 for IEC 61508 and ASIL D for ISO/DIS 26262.
MATLAB® and Simulink®
ETAS is offering a broad range of MATLAB® and Simulink® interfaces. Engineers working with both, MATLAB®/Simulink® and ETAS tools benefit from seamless combination of the distinctive features of the different toolscapes to accomplish their development tasks.
In embedded software development, virtualization comprises the early execution of testing, validation, and calibration by simulating the object under test and / or its environment without necessarily having the complete target hardware available. ETAS offers comprehensive virtualization solutions that enable customers to perform development tasks in virtual environments.
ETAS tools fulfill the requirements of all development and testing applications: In the laboratory, at the test bench, on the road as well as in the service shop. ETAS products and services encompass a wide array of features and benefits:
- One-stop shopping for full-system solutions with local expert support
- Comprehensive software tools for advanced applications
- Compact-sized, rugged hardware designed for automotive environments
- Scalable and flexible hardware configurations
- Support of a wide variety of ECU interfaces
