Bosch Powertrain Systems achieves high-throughput ECU measurement for vehicle control with ETAS
Bosch Powertrain Systems (RBCD) was tasked with developing an advanced electronic braking system (EBS) for a new truck platform. However, their existing measurement setup was inadequate. The project required a solution that could handle massive data throughput from tens of thousands of signals. Through a partnership with ETAS, Bosch implemented a high-performance INCA-based measurement workflow, enabling significantly increased data capacity and paving the way for scalable, multi-ECU monitoring.
Establishing a clear path to a high-throughput, multi-ECU measurement concept
Bosch Powertrain Systems was faced with a tight project timeline and significant technical hurdles. They needed to transition from an internal combustion engine-oriented setup to a solution powerful enough for a next-generation electronic braking system. ETAS provided the necessary technology, as well as hands-on integration support and rapid troubleshooting. This collaborative approach mitigated integration risks, establishing a reliable, high-performance workflow and solidifying ETAS's reputation as a trusted partner for complex vehicle motion control applications.
At a glance
Challenge
The required signal volume, sampling rate, and data throughput for developing an advanced EBS for trucks could not be met by an existing measurement setup.
Solution
An integrated ETAS solution featuring INCA, FETK T1.1B ECU access, ES892.2, ES650, and EHANDBOOK, supported by on-site integration and diagnostic support.
Customer achievement
Enabled a scalable, high-throughput measurement workflow for multiple ECUs, reducing integration risk and increasing confidence within a tight project timeline.
The challenge
For Bosch Powertrain Systems' truck vehicle motion control project, the existing reference setup was a critical bottleneck. Originally designed for internal combustion engine (ICE) applications, the system could only handle 8,000-10,000 signals at approximately 4-6 MB/s. However, the new EBS demanded a data throughput of over 20 MB/s. Additionally, Bosch required a practical approach to monitoring multiple ECUs within a consistent workflow to ensure system-wide integrity.
The solution
ETAS delivered a comprehensive INCA-based measurement environment to address the challenge. This solution included INCA software, FETK T1.1B ECU access, ES892.2 and ES650 measurement hardware, and EHANDBOOK for efficient data handling. The ETAS team provided crucial on-site support to integrate the FETK T1.1B with the EBS ECU. This involved identifying a suitable adapter and verifying pin connections. Through hands-on diagnostics, including manual jumper wiring, the team quickly confirmed the adapter pinout, stabilized the setup, and sped up the troubleshooting process.
Customer achievements
Bosch established a clear migration path from its legacy setup to a forward-looking, multi-channel measurement concept for the EBS program by implementing the ETAS solution. The combination of expert on-site support, rapid problem diagnosis, and practical troubleshooting significantly reduced the risk of integration within the demanding project timeline. This success strengthened customer confidence, provided Bosch with a scalable solution to monitor multiple ECUs within a single INCA workflow, and reinforced confidence in the system architecture for vehicle motion control development.
The partnership between Bosch Powertrain Systems and ETAS has laid the groundwork for developing advanced vehicle motion control systems. With a scalable, INCA-based workflow and a proven multi-ECU measurement concept now in place, the collaboration is ready to support future projects requiring high-performance ECU measurement and analysis.
