Hyundai-Kefico establishes unified measurement and calibration workflow for first µP-based VCU with ETAS
In response to next-generation vehicle platform requirements from the OEM customer, Hyundai-Kefico led the development of a microprocessor (µP)-based vehicle control unit (VCU) for electric vehicles and vehicle motion functions. With the adoption of AUTOSAR Adaptive middleware, Hyundai-Kefico faced the challenge of maintaining a consistent measurement and calibration workflow across traditional ECU functions and new µP-based applications required by the customer. Through close collaboration with ETAS, Hyundai-Kefico successfully extended its established INCA-based workflow to the new software architecture, creating a consistent engineering environment aligned with customer expectations. OEM to seamlessly adapt their established workflows and accelerate development.
At a glance
Challenge
To support the customer’s advanced vehicle platform, Hyundai-Kefico needed to ensure a consistent INCA-based measurement and calibration workflow while developing a µP-based VCU using AUTOSAR Adaptive middleware.
However, no ready-to-use solution existed to support INCA-based workflows in µP-based applications.
Solution
ETAS collaborated closely with Hyundai-Kefico to enable measurement and calibration for the customer’s (µP)-based VCU platform. ETAS provided the MC-Gateway SDK and supported its integration into Hyundai-Kefico’s software development environment. Hyundai-Kefico engineering teams implemented the solution in µP-based user applications, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
Customer achievement
Hyundai-Kefico successfully deployed a unified INCA-based workflow for µP-based functions on the customer’s Vehicle Control Unit platform.
This enabled seamless extension of the measurement and calibration environment to vehicle motion applications required by the customer.
The challenge
During the development of the customer’s µP-based VCU platform, Hyundai-Kefico transitioned to an AUTOSAR Adaptive middleware-based architecture.
A key requirement from the customer was to maintain a consistent measurement and calibration workflow across both existing ECU functions and newly introduced µP-based applications.
This requirement introduced significant technical challenges due to the absence of existing solutions and the need to preserve established development processes.
The solution
ETAS collaborated closely with Hyundai-Kefico to enable measurement and calibration for the VPC-P platform. This solution, based on the ETAS MC-Gateway SDK, included tools for building and describing (A2L and HEX generation), as well as the MC-Gateway and MemoryPool libraries. ETAS ported the MC-Gateway to the VPC-P target and integrated the associated build tools into Hyundai’s software development environment. Meanwhile, ETAS supported Hyundai-Kefico’s engineering teams in integrating the MC libraries into µP-based user applications. Rapid response to customer feedback and continuous knowledge transfer supported the successful implementation of the solution.
Customer achievements
The project enabled Hyundai-Kefico to apply its established INCA workflow to µP-based functions on the customer’s VCU platform.
The solution ensured consistency across both powertrain and vehicle motion development domains, meeting the customer’s expectations for a unified engineering environment.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Hyundai-Kefico and ETAS demonstrates how supplier expertise and close cooperation can successfully address OEM customer requirements in modern vehicle software development.
This project highlights Hyundai-Kefico’s key role in enabling next-generation vehicle control architectures in alignment with customer expectations.
